Glass partitions and doors

Glass partition and internal door systems for New Zealand workplaces

Glass Projects designs, supplies, and installs glass partition systems and internal glass doors for commercial offices, professional services fitouts, and high-end workplaces across New Zealand. Our work spans boardrooms, meeting rooms, private offices, reception areas, and open-plan divisions — creating defined spaces while keeping natural light flowing through the floor plate.

We work directly with architects, interior designers, and fitout contractors from early design through to installation. Getting the framing system, glass type, and acoustic specification right at the start avoids problems on site and ensures the finished result matches the design intent — both visually and in terms of performance.

Partition system types

The right partition system depends on the aesthetic, acoustic requirements, and how the space needs to function. We install across the full range of internal glazing configurations.

  • Frameless glass partitions: floor-to-ceiling glass panels with minimal visible hardware, creating a clean, open feel. Glass is typically fixed at head and base with concealed channels or patch fittings. Well suited to modern offices where transparency and light are priorities.

  • Framed glass partitions: aluminium or steel-framed systems that provide a more defined structure. Available in a range of profiles and finishes — from slim black steel-look frames through to anodised or powder-coated aluminium. The framing accommodates thicker glass and integrated blinds where acoustic or visual privacy is needed.

  • Steel-look partitions: grid-pattern framing that references industrial or heritage aesthetics. These systems use aluminium profiles designed to replicate the look of traditional steel-framed glazing, with the practical benefits of modern aluminium — lighter weight, better thermal performance, and more finishing options.

  • Sliding glass doors: top-hung or floor-guided sliding panels integrated with the partition system. A space-efficient solution for meeting rooms, boardrooms, and flexible work areas where a swinging door is impractical or where the opening needs to be wider than a standard doorway.

  • Hinged glass doors: single or double-leaf doors with patch fittings, pivot hardware, or framed systems. Integrated with the partition for a seamless appearance, with options for self-closing mechanisms, locks, and access control hardware.

Glass types for partitions

Toughened glass is the standard for most internal partitions and doors. It provides Grade A safety classification and high impact resistance. If broken, it shatters into small, relatively safe fragments rather than sharp shards. Typical thicknesses for partitions range from 10mm to 12mm, depending on panel height and whether the glass is frameless or framed.

Laminated glass provides enhanced safety and security — the interlayer holds the panel together if it breaks, and the laminate construction also improves acoustic performance compared to monolithic toughened glass. Specified for partitions in high-traffic areas, security-sensitive offices, and where sound reduction between spaces is important.

Acoustic glass uses a specialised acoustic interlayer to significantly reduce sound transmission between spaces. This is critical for meeting rooms, boardrooms, and private offices where speech privacy matters. Acoustic laminated glass can achieve STC ratings of 35-40+ depending on the glass thickness and configuration — a meaningful improvement over standard toughened glass.

Not every partition needs to be fully transparent. Options for visual privacy and branding include frosted or sandblasted glass, ceramic frit patterns, applied films for partial obscurity or branding graphics, and low-iron glass where true colour clarity is important — particularly in spaces with light-coloured interiors or where the glass itself is a design feature.

Where glass partitions are used

Internal glass partitions and doors are a standard element of commercial fitouts across New Zealand. The applications we handle most often include:

  • Corporate offices: meeting rooms, boardrooms, private offices, and open-plan divisions where glass maintains sightlines and natural light across the floor plate while providing acoustic separation.

  • Professional services: law firms, accounting practices, and consultancies where client-facing spaces need to feel open and modern while offering genuine speech privacy for confidential discussions.

  • Co-working and flexible workspaces: glass-enclosed pods, phone booths, and meeting rooms within shared office environments. Partitions define spaces without closing them off visually.

  • Retail and hospitality: internal shopfront displays, restaurant divisions, and hotel back-of-house separations where glass adds a sense of space and light.

  • Healthcare and education: consulting rooms, reception screens, and teaching spaces where visual connection and natural light improve the environment for occupants.
