Frequently travelling to test and scrutinise new glass technology, directors Murray Clark and Lou Sutton of Glass Projects in East Tamaki made an interesting discovery recently at Glasstec 2008 in Dusseldorf, Germany. It was here that they found the ‘Kubik 033’, a remote controlled mechanical glass handling machine capable of manoeuvring panes up to eight meters in height.
The Kubik 033 provides a wide range of project benefits, almost eliminating the need for fixed scaffolding and cranes - significantly increasing site safety. "Finding effective on site glass handling technology of this quality and versatility is rare." Says Director Murray Clark, "Our team invests alot of time into the discovery of such technology because it makes such a massive difference to our clients - particularly in the options and flexibility they have in their projects. The Kubik 033 provides a unique way of achieving results in an easier, more efficient way – thus saving them money in project costs and time".
The Glass Projects team were particularly impressed with the potential efficiency of the new machine. Trained crane operators use the Kubik 033’s remote control to tile, turn and twist the suction head and position frameless glass panes with millimetres to spare – a previously awkward process. The Kubik 003 allows for increased project productivity, reducing the number of staff required on site to complete the work - allowing huge project savings for clients.
Having worked on some of the most challenging sites in Germany and abroad, the Kubik 033 is capable of some astonishing loads. With a working height of up to eight metres, the machine can manoeuvre window panes of up to 2310kg’s – depending on height and reach.
Significant strength does not equate to significant noise however, as Kubik 033s’ quiet duel motors provide unique project flexibility: Its clean electric motor is designed for inside use – allowing staff to work uninterrupted; and it’s cost efficient diesel engine is used in external projects. This flexibility will enable the Glass Projects team to glaze glass ‘inside-out’ - eliminating the need for external access equipment scaffolding on multilevel window projects.
In addition, with a weight of just 1730 kg’s, the Kubik 033 is easily manoeuvred between floors using existing goods lifts. It’s hard wearing rubber tracks are also gentle enough for use on internal concrete flooring.
Making life easier for clients and Glass Projects alike, the Kubik 033 eliminates most fixed scaffolding requirements, particularly on projects which include canopies and façade glazing, and on floor edge glass balustrades.
It is this kind of technology that allows Glass Projects to hold their place as specialists and market leaders in glass systems design, supply and installation.
